Millicent Omanga’s repeated appearances in school uniforms during visits to Nairobi schools have sparked debate online, with Kenyans expressing different views about the approach.
The former nominated senator has worn different school uniforms during several visits linked to her Omanga Care sanitary towel initiative, which focuses on menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls.
Omanga’s School Uniform Campaign
Omanga first attracted attention in July when she visited Kangemi Primary School wearing a pink checked school dress.
During the visit, she interacted with learners, teachers and school administrators before distributing sanitary products to schoolgirls.
She also discussed challenges facing public schools, including sanitation facilities and infrastructure for teachers and learners.
Days later, Omanga continued the campaign at Olympic Primary School in Kibra and Njathaini Primary School in Roysambu.
At Njathaini, she wore a lavender shirt, a checked skirt, white socks and black shoes. The Star reported that it was her third different school uniform in four days as she continued the menstrual hygiene outreach programme.
More School Visits Follow
The school uniform appearances have continued beyond the July visits.
In August, reports showed Omanga wearing another uniform during a visit to Kiboro Primary School in Mlango Kubwa, where she distributed sanitary towels to schoolgirls through her initiative.
Her decision to repeatedly wear student-style clothing has, however, become a major talking point online.
Public Reaction Divided
Some online commentators have questioned whether an adult politician should repeatedly wear school uniforms during visits involving learners.
Critics argue that the clothing can distract attention from the intended message of menstrual health and school support.
Citizen Digital reported fresh criticism on September 18, 2026, after a video showed Omanga dancing alongside students while dressed in a matching school uniform.
Other Kenyans, however, have viewed the clothing as part of her effort to connect with students during the outreach activities.
The criticism and support have therefore created a wider conversation about how public figures should present themselves during charity and school engagements.
Omanga’s Political Campaign
The debate comes as Omanga pursues the Nairobi Women Representative seat. She joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in March 2026 after leaving UDA and has been linked to the party’s Nairobi political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Her political activities and charity outreach have consequently attracted increased public attention.
