Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets

Both headsets will receive final operating system updates in March 2027, while Meta will provide security patches and bug fixes through December.

Meta has outlined its Quest 2 support timeline, with final operating system updates scheduled for March 2027. The Quest Pro will follow the same schedule as the company winds down feature development for both headsets.

However, Meta will continue providing security patches and bug fixes through the end of 2027. The timetable therefore separates the end of operating system updates from the final months of maintenance support.

In its announcement, Meta said millions of people still use the two virtual reality devices. The company released the Quest 2 in 2020, followed by the Quest Pro in 2022.

Quest 2 support and continued app access

Developers will have until December 2027 to submit new apps for either headset. However, they can continue updating existing apps after Meta ends support for the devices.

The app stores will also remain open beyond the support deadline, allowing users to keep buying apps. Cross-play with the Quest 3 and Quest 3S will continue after feature development ends.

For owners, the schedule means the end of feature updates will not also close access to app purchases. For developers, meanwhile, December 2027 marks the cutoff for new submissions, rather than updates to apps already available.
