Casio’s $400 keyboard pairs with an app to match songs, while offering conventional playing and a split mode for beginners and experienced musicians.

The new Casio CT-FS1 keyboard uses Feel Sync technology to let beginners play along with songs while staying in key. The 61-key instrument costs $400 and is available now in black or white.

Casio’s system works through a dedicated app, where users upload the song they want to play. The app’s algorithm analyses the music and adapts the keyboard so players avoid out-of-key notes.

The technology also handles songs with multiple key changes and complex sections. Meanwhile, users who prefer conventional playing can use the instrument as a standard keyboard.

How Casio CT-FS1 supports playing along

Feel Sync shifts the focus from choosing the right notes to controlling how and when to play. Although it does not teach scales, the feature offers beginners a way to practise rhythm, timing and expression.

Players can also divide the keyboard’s Feel Sync function into two zones. This allows a beginner to play at one end while a more experienced musician plays the actual notes at the other.

The split setup therefore gives musicians with different experience levels a way to play together on one instrument. Conventional playing remains an option, rather than requiring users to rely on the app-assisted mode.

Touch-responsive keys and portable design

Beyond its song-matching feature, the CT-FS1 has 61 touch-responsive keys and a selection of sounds. Its built-in stereo speaker includes a surround effect, while a headphone output provides another listening option. The keyboard also supports Bluetooth connectivity.

For portable use, the instrument runs on AA batteries and weighs just under 10 pounds. Alternatively, users can power it with an AC adapter.

Both colour options take a fully monochrome approach, extending the finish across the keys. The black model has an entirely black keyboard, while the white version uses white throughout, rather than the familiar contrasting key colours.
