Gor Mahia supporter Peter Mwaniki Maina is encouraging men to prioritise mental wellness and physical fitness through sport. The 47-year-old long-distance truck driver says exercise helps him balance hours behind the wheel.
Maina, who recently won a Sh102 million SportPesa Mega Jackpot, makes time for running, boxing and football. Besides helping him manage his weight, he says these activities give him mental clarity.
Making mental wellness part of daily life
Maina’s work involves sitting for long periods, so he uses his free time to stay physically active. He encourages men to consider athletics, boxing and football as alternatives to gym workouts.
Having once tried long-distance running, he continues to value the role of sport in his personal wellbeing. For him, exercise offers both physical benefits and a clearer mind alongside a demanding driving job.
Football also introduced Maina to sports betting through games with friends. He describes betting as a leisure activity and recently correctly predicted all 15 matches in the SportPesa Mega Jackpot.
The Sh102 million win fulfilled his long-held ambition of becoming a millionaire. He now hopes to use the money to become self-reliant, describing his driving work as risky because of his destinations.
Maina backs Gor Mahia to retain league title
Meanwhile, Maina remains confident that Gor Mahia can defend their SportPesa Premier League crown this season. He points to the team’s depth across defence, midfield and attack as a major strength.
K’Ogalo collected the maximum 12 points from their opening four matches to lead the standings. That put them two points ahead of KCB and three clear of AFC Leopards.
Maina welcomed that strong start and said the squad had no injuries. As a result, he believes Gor have a chance to extend their advantage as the season progresses.
His football interests also extend to Arsenal and the English Premier League, which he follows during free weekends. He enjoys the competition’s excitement and welcomed Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
Maina also expressed confidence in Arsenal’s title prospects, pointing to points gained at grounds where they previously lost.
