Nairobians turn to humour over hot days, while residents of Mombasa and Isiolo tease them about higher temperatures elsewhere.

Nairobi heat memes are spreading across TikTok, X and Instagram as residents joke about the city’s hot weather. Users are sharing playful images and comments about sunshine they say has become difficult to bear.

For many, the heat contrasts with Nairobi’s familiar cool mornings and chilly evenings. Some compare the city to an oven, while others joke that the sun has turned it into hell.

In response, one user joked in Kiswahili that the heat could cook someone until they went bald. Other users suggested the sunshine was strong enough to prepare ugali on a person’s forehead.

Bald heads also became part of the humour, with commenters joking about their direct exposure to sunshine. Alongside those posts, users shared Kiswahili complaints expressing that Nairobi’s heat had become too much.

Meanwhile, residents from Mombasa and Isiolo joined the conversation with teasing responses of their own. They told Nairobians that hotter coastal and northern areas offered a different experience of high temperatures.

Forecast puts Nairobi below hotter counties

However, the weather outlook places Nairobi’s expected temperatures below those forecast for several other parts of Kenya. The Kenya Meteorological Department expects daytime highs of about 28°C to 30°C in the capital.

Nights should offer some relief, with temperatures of around 15°C to 17°C. By comparison, the department expects daytime temperatures above 35°C in parts of Garissa, Wajir, Tana River and Isiolo.

That forecast also covers parts of Kilifi, Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana. Although Nairobi residents describe the heat as unusual, the forecast shows a clear gap between the capital and these hotter regions.

Rain outlook adds another twist to the jokes

Weather experts also expect warmer-than-average conditions during the latter part of 2026. Temperatures could rise between 0.5°C and 1.5°C above normal.

At the same time, Kenya Met forecasts above-average rainfall in Nairobi and neighbouring counties during the October-to-December season. Some residents have therefore joked that the strong sunshine signals heavy rain ahead, contrasting it with earlier cold months.

For now, advice to residents includes drinking water and avoiding direct sunshine during the hottest hours. Light clothing and sunscreen when outdoors also feature among the recommended precautions.
