15 Kenyans Evacuated from Iran Safely Land at JKIA

Fifteen Kenyan nationals safely arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The government coordinated their evacuation from Iran amid rising military tensions in the Middle East.

Safe Return Through Coordinated Transit

First, the evacuees departed from Tehran under strict security arrangements. They then transited through Türkiye before boarding a flight to Nairobi.

Upon arrival, officials from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs received them at JKIA. Notably, Peter Burugu represented Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu during the reception.

Immediate Support for Returnees

Upon landing, authorities quickly conducted a structured debriefing session. Additionally, health teams provided psychosocial support to help the evacuees recover from trauma.

Thereafter, officials facilitated smooth reunions with their families. This approach ensured both emotional recovery and safe reintegration into society.evacuation

Government Response to Growing Conflict

The evacuation followed increased military tensions across the Middle East region. Consequently, the Kenyan government prioritized the safety of its citizens abroad.

Earlier, on June 21, 2025, authorities issued an evacuation order for Kenyans in Iran and Israel. Since then, officials have intensified efforts to relocate vulnerable citizens from conflict zones.

Funding and Ongoing Evacuation Plans

Furthermore, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs requested KSh 400 million from the National Assembly. This funding aims to support the evacuation of Kenyans stranded in high-risk regions.

Specifically, the plan targets citizens in Iran, Israel, and Russia. Therefore, the government continues to strengthen its emergency response strategy.

Commitment to Citizen Safety

Overall, this successful evacuation highlights Kenya’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad. Moreover, it demonstrates effective coordination between diplomatic missions and emergency teams.

As global tensions persist, authorities remain alert and prepared for further evacuations. Ultimately, the government aims to ensure every Kenyan returns home safely.
