2025 KJSEA Results Released as Learners Move to Senior School

Ministry Releases 2025 KJSEA Results as Students Prepare for Senior School Transition

The Ministry of Education has officially released the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results. The exams, conducted between October 27 and November 3, 2025, evaluated the readiness of the pioneer Competency-Based Education cohort. Consequently, these learners are now set to transition smoothly into senior secondary school in January 2026.

More Learners Meet Expectations Across Key Subjects

Education CS Julius Ogamba announced improved performance in seven key subjects. Notably, Hindu Religious Education, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Creative Arts and Sports, Kiswahili, CRE, and Agriculture recorded strong results.

A total of 1,130,459 learners sat the exams. Of these, 578,630 were male and 551,829 were female. Consequently, Ogamba noted that the figures reflected a near-equal gender balance nationwide.

Furthermore, he revealed that 59.09 per cent of learners qualified for the STEM pathway. In addition, 46.52 per cent met the criteria for Social Sciences, while 48.73 per cent showed potential in Arts and Sports.

New Assessment System Categorizes Learners into Four Performance Bands

To minimize unnecessary competition, the Ministry released the results without ranking. Consequently, learners were grouped into four performance bands: Exceeding Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Approaching Expectations, and Below Expectations, thereby promoting a healthier and more supportive learning environment.

The final grade combined three key components:

20 per cent from the KPSEA Grade Six exam

20 per cent from school-based assessments in Grades Seven and Eight

60 per cent from the summative KJSEA test

Each subject carries eight points, with a maximum of 72 points across all subjects. Although percentage marks are not displayed, the points determine each learner’s performance band.

Scores between 75–100 per cent fall under Exceeding Expectations. Meanwhile, Meeting Expectations covers 41–74 per cent, Approaching Expectations ranges from 21–40 per cent, and Below Expectations includes 0–20 per cent.

Results Highlight Steady Growth Under the CBC System

According to the Ministry and KNEC, the results demonstrate the benefits of continuous assessment under the CBC framework. Moreover, they say the system reduces pressure on learners and creates a healthier learning environment. The results also guide career pathway selection and senior school placement.

How to Check the 2025 KJSEA Results

To improve accessibility, the Ministry activated both SMS and online platforms.
