Was It Really Illness? Betty Bayo’s Mother Demands Full Inquest
The mother of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo now wants authorities to open an inquest into her daughter’s death.
Bayo died on November 10, 2025, at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she was reportedly receiving treatment. A family spokesperson, accompanied by her husband Hiram Gitau, said she succumbed to leukaemia.
But her mother Joyce Wairimu Mbugua disputes that claim.
Through Omenke Andeje & Company Advocates, she has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), insisting the family suspects foul play.
Wairimu says Bayo never showed signs of illness before her sudden death. She describes the circumstances as mysterious and questions actions taken after her passing.
According to her, the family never received an autopsy report and believes the burial was rushed to conceal key details.
She also claims the hospital refused to release medical records or disclose what doctors were treating her daughter for.
“The family expresses its utmost disdain and demands that you direct the Inspector General to urgently institute an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, alias Betty Bayo,” the letter to the DPP states.
During the initial announcement on November 10, the family spokesperson said Bayo experienced excessive bleeding before she died.
“The doctors tried their best, but the will of God has prevailed,” he said at the time.
