Detectives Neutralize Suspected Robbers in Nairobi CBD

Detectives gunned down two suspected robbers along Moi Avenue in Nairobi CBD on Tuesday. The tense moment occurred just before noon near the Moi-Kenyatta Avenue junction. Officers confronted the armed gang following an intelligence report about a robbery.

Police Engage Robbery Suspects
Witnesses claimed the five-person gang attacked a client leaving a nearby building. Consequently, officers on patrol quickly responded, shooting two of the suspects. The other three suspects managed to escape the scene. Plainclothes police shot the suspects, causing panic among the bystanders.

Crowd Dispersal and Manhunt
The scene quickly drew many onlookers from the city center. However, the high-alert police promptly began dispersing the crowd. A brief struggle between the officers and the crowd ensued immediately. Police then lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the onlookers before securing the area. Officers placed the bodies in a van compartment, locked it, and then drove away. Following the incident, police launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects. They are intensifying this gang crackdown during the festive season.

Crime Crackdown Intensifies
The incident comes amid concerns over rising crime in Nairobi CBD. Mugging and phone snatching cases notably target shop owners and residents. In response, police arrested over 200 suspected muggers in September this year. Nairobi Region Police Commander George Sedah addressed the press after this major crackdown. He assured residents that Nairobi remains safe and urged the public to report all mugging cases.
