Nairobi CBD Roads to Close for Jamhuri Day Celebrations

Police will close several major roads in Nairobi CBD on Friday, December 12, to enhance security.

Security Measures for Nyayo Stadium Event

Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed security arrangements at the CBD and Nyayo Stadium. Consequently, the event will proceed safely.

Expressway Diversions to Ease Traffic

Sections of the expressway will close to facilitate the celebrations. Vehicles from Lang’ata Road will divert at Madaraka to Lusaka Road roundabout.

Meanwhile, Aerodrome Road will remain closed from 7am to 3pm on Friday for safety purposes.

Motorists from Westlands must exit at Bunyala Road, while Mlolongo commuters exit at Capital Centre.

Other Roads Remain Open

All remaining Nairobi roads will stay open. Drivers are urged to follow instructions from traffic officers stationed across the city.

Nyayo Stadium Access and Parking

Gates open at 5am. Dignitaries will park inside the stadium, while citizens use the closed Langata-Mombasa loop.

Patriotism Encouraged During Celebrations

Kitiyo urged attendees to wear national colours to welcome international guests and demonstrate patriotism.

Media Coverage and Event Safety

The media should focus on the positives of the event. Uniformed and non-uniformed officers will monitor strategic points.

Furthermore, specialised security forces will remain on standby to respond to any eventualities around Nyayo Stadium and neighbouring areas.
