Mosiria Withdraws From Marion Naipei Case Amid Online Uproar

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has stepped aside from the case involving Marion Naipei and James Opande, following mounting public scrutiny and online backlash.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Mosiria clarified that his involvement was strictly procedural. Accordingly, he maintained that his actions aligned with standard government practice.

Notably, Mosiria said his office routinely receives calls and complaints from Nairobi residents seeking justice, protection, or intervention. In this case, he explained that Naipei approached his office on January 16, 2026, requesting assistance in pursuing justice.

“I had no prior relationship with her,” Mosiria stated. Instead, he said his role was limited to ensuring her concerns reached the appropriate legal channels.

No Judgment, No Profiling

Furthermore, Mosiria rejected claims that Naipei’s background influenced his actions. On the contrary, he stressed that government institutions must remain impartial at all times.

“The government does not judge, profile, or deny justice based on an individual’s past,” he said. Therefore, he emphasized that dignity, access to justice, and equity remain central to public service.

Meanwhile, Mosiria acknowledged receiving information from individuals attempting to shift attention to Naipei’s personal history. However, he dismissed such narratives as misleading and inconsistent with the law.

Decision to Step Aside

As public debate intensified, Mosiria conceded that the matter had increasingly taken on a political tone. Consequently, he said he made the decision to step aside after reflection and consultation.

“Leadership also means recognising when an issue has been politicised beyond its purpose,” he said. For this reason, he chose to withdraw from the matter to safeguard public trust and institutional integrity.

Nevertheless, Mosiria warned that misinformation and personal attacks should not derail the work of county offices. Instead, he urged focus on service delivery and accountability.

Commitment to Integrity

Importantly, Mosiria clarified that stepping aside does not amount to wrongdoing or surrender to public pressure. Rather, he described the move as a reaffirmation of his values.

“This is neither a retreat nor a concession,” he said. Ultimately, he reiterated his commitment to integrity, justice, and the dignity of all citizens.

In conclusion, Mosiria confirmed that his office has handed over the matter to the relevant authorities.

“My role was to receive the complaint and channel it accordingly,” he said. “The matter no longer falls under my office. Now, it rests with the authorities, and ultimately, with God.”
