IG Kanja Launches Urgent 3-Day Probe After Dramatic Security Breach at Ruto Wajir Rally
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered an immediate three-day inquiry after a dramatic security breach in Wajir County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 12, during the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement event. During the function, a man ran toward the presidential stage.
Security officers from the Presidential Security Service intercepted him within seconds. Consequently, they prevented him from reaching the Head of State.
The crowd reacted with shock as officers neutralized what they perceived as a potential threat. Meanwhile, the president continued addressing thousands of youth.
Man Claims He Wanted to Meet the President
Later, the man released a confession video that circulated widely online. According to his statement, he arrived at the venue around midday.
He said he desperately wanted to meet the president and share personal concerns. However, he feared the event would end before access became possible.
“I waited for so long to meet the president,” he said in the video. Therefore, frustration pushed him to rush toward the stage.
Security officers immediately removed him from the area. Nevertheless, President Ruto reportedly assured him he would attend to him later.
The promised meeting never happened. Subsequently, the man confirmed he left without seeing the president.
Police Assure Public Safety Was Never Compromised
In a statement, the National Police Service reassured the public that security remained intact throughout the incident.
Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stated the president and attendees were never in danger. Furthermore, officers followed established protective protocols.
Authorities formed a specialized investigation team immediately after the breach. Specifically, the team will examine procedural gaps and response timelines.
The Inspector General gave investigators a strict three-day deadline. As a result, officials expect rapid recommendations for corrective action.
