Police Seize Fake Dollars in Lucky Summer Crackdown

Suspect Apprehended in Lucky Summer
Police officers from Lucky Summer Station arrested a 38-year-old man on December 22. Moreover, they seized counterfeit U.S. dollars during the intelligence-led operation. Detectives tracked and intercepted a white Toyota Prado in Lucky Summer. Consequently, they suspected the vehicle was transporting counterfeit currency.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a locked metallic blue box. Additionally, the accused refused to open it despite repeated requests.

Counterfeit Notes Uncovered at Station
At the station, officers forced open the box. Inside, they discovered 68 bundles of fake U.S. dollar notes, each containing 100 bills.

Detectives also recovered cartons, newspapers, cotton wool, sand, and stones. Therefore, they believed these items disguised the counterfeit notes during transport.

The arrest came amid rising counterfeit-related cases handled by DCI this year. Furthermore, authorities intensified crackdowns across Nairobi and coastal counties.

In August, detectives arrested two women in Upper Hill, Nairobi. They recovered fake U.S. currency worth USD 560,000 concealed in a handbag.

Seven suspects, including Kenyan, Tanzanian, and Congolese nationals, were detained in Ngara. Detectives seized 36 bundles of fake U.S. dollars and black paper used in counterfeiting.

Crackdowns Along Coast and Lang’ata
Authorities arrested three suspects in Kwale and another in Lang’ata. Moreover, they recovered counterfeit currency valued at USD 31,700 during the operations.

The accused remains in custody at Lucky Summer Police Station. Consequently, detectives continue investigations to unravel the full extent of the syndicate.
