Tanzanian Authorities Detain Kenyan Officers After Pursuit

Officers Arrested in Tanzania
Two Kenyan police officers were arrested on January 6 by Tanzanian authorities. Moreover, they crossed the border while pursuing a suspect accused of false pretence.

Police Report Confirms Incident
According to Lungalunga Police Station in Kwale County, the officers were attached to Tononoka Police Station Crime Office. Additionally, they were on duty during the cross-border operation.

Firearms Confiscated
At the time of arrest, the officers carried two Ceska pistols. Consequently, Tanzanian authorities confiscated the firearms, each loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Suspect Escaped to Tanzania
The arrest was linked to a suspect who fled into Tanzania. Furthermore, the suspect allegedly crossed the border to evade Kenyan authorities.

Lack of Coordination Cited
Kenyan officers faced trouble for pursuing without coordination. Consequently, Tanzanian authorities detained them for breaching cross-border security protocols.

Driver Also Detained
A driver from the Coast Development Authority accompanied the officers. Additionally, he was detained for driving the vehicle used in the operation.

In May 2024, five Buruburu detectives were detained in Tarakea, Tanzania. Moreover, they were later released after diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

In 2023, four Kenyan officers were arrested in Tanzania for illegal crossing. Additionally, Coast Guard officers previously detained Ugandan soldiers operating inside Kenyan territory.
