NTSA says a joint night operation on Kakamega-Mumias Road led to at least 21 driver arrests.
NTSA says a joint enforcement team found drink-driving, invalid documents and vehicle defects during checks on the Kakamega-Mumias Road.
An NTSA night crackdown on the Kakamega-Mumias Road led to the arrest of at least 21 drivers. The National Transport and Safety Authority said a joint interagency team targeted motorists and vehicles breaching road safety rules.
In an update shared on Wednesday, NTSA listed driving under the influence of alcohol among the offences. Inspectors also found motorists driving without valid licences.
Other violations included expired Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badges, alongside expired vehicle inspection certificates and stickers. The team also flagged cracked windscreens, worn-out tyres and expired insurance certificates.

In addition, inspectors identified vehicles using registration plates that did not meet prescribed requirements. NTSA said it worked with other government agencies to improve compliance with road safety requirements.
The arrests come amid continuing enforcement against motorists and transport operators whose conduct or vehicles threaten other road users. The checks covered driver credentials as well as vehicle condition and statutory documents.
Meanwhile, the authority has repeatedly urged drivers and vehicle owners to keep their licences, insurance and inspection documents valid. It has also warned against drink-driving and using unroadworthy vehicles, saying both put passengers and other road users at risk.
