National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula joined Members of Parliament in a surprise birthday celebration for Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.

The joint celebration honoured two major milestones, with Ichung’wah turning 50 and Odhiambo marking her 60th birthday. The lawmakers share November 1 as their birthday, although they were born ten years apart.

MPs Share Cake-Cutting Moments in Parliament

Videos circulating online showed the legislators cutting a white birthday cake during the celebration inside Parliament on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Wetang’ula led colleagues in marking the occasion, while MPs shared laughter and light moments with the two birthday celebrants.

Ichung’wah was also seen feeding Odhiambo a piece of cake as colleagues watched and laughed. The informal gathering offered a lighter moment for lawmakers who often face demanding parliamentary duties and intense political debates.

Ichung’wah and Odhiambo Celebrate Different Milestones

Ichung’wah, the Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader, celebrated his golden jubilee. Meanwhile, Odhiambo marked six decades of life while continuing her work as Suba North MP.

Their shared birthday has attracted attention because the two lawmakers belong to opposing political camps. Ichung’wah serves in the ruling coalition, while Odhiambo is associated with the opposition. Their interaction during the celebration highlighted a moment of cordiality across the political divide.

Millie Odhiambo Speaks Against Ageism

Odhiambo’s 60th birthday also renewed attention to her public remarks about ageism, particularly against women in leadership.

She has challenged negative attitudes towards ageing and expressed confidence about entering her 60s. Her birthday celebrations included a thanksgiving event themed around “Goodness of God,” according to media reports.

The Suba North MP’s remarks encouraged conversations about respecting older women and recognising their continued contribution to public life.

Ichung’wah Marks His Golden Jubilee

Ichung’wah also received birthday messages from colleagues and supporters as he marked his 50th birthday. The joint parliamentary celebration added another public moment to the milestone.

Although political disagreements remain part of parliamentary life, the occasion showed lawmakers sharing a personal celebration beyond their usual political roles.
