A Soweto police operation in Nairobi led to five arrests and the seizure of 1,300 litres of illicit kangara. The National Police Service (NPS) announced the arrests on November 3.

The raid forms part of ongoing nationwide efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of illicit alcohol. Authorities say these brews pose health and social risks to communities.

The NPS said officers would continue targeting the manufacture, distribution and consumption of illicit brews across the country. These efforts also seek to dismantle production networks and prevent unregulated alcohol from reaching consumers.

Meanwhile, police urged residents to support the crackdown by reporting suspicious activities to their nearest police station. Members of the public can also use the service’s toll-free reporting channels.

To report incidents, residents can call emergency numbers 999 or 911. Alternatively, they can contact Fichua Kwa DCI on 0800 722 203 or send a WhatsApp message to 0709 570 000.
