The Wajir proposal forms part of several land acquisition processes covering military facilities and public infrastructure projects. Other notices concern land in Lamu, Kisii, Bomet and Nakuru counties.

Under the notices, affected owners must submit written compensation claims before their scheduled inquiries. They must also provide identification documents, KRA PINs, ownership records and bank details.

The commission has designated selected chiefs’ offices for inquiries into the acquisitions. Compensation and the propriety of acquisition are among the matters for discussion concerning the Lamu properties.

Other acquisitions cover transport projects and military land

Meanwhile, the NLC has scheduled inquiries into two parcels for the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor. The properties measure 84.65 hectares and 218.9 hectares, bringing the combined area to 303.55 hectares. Several landowners hold the properties.

In Kisii and Bomet counties, the commission has also targeted four parcels for the proposed Mugenu Bridge. The bridge project lies along the Kaplong-Kisii Highway and requires a total of 2.6588 hectares.

A separate acquisition covers 1.2523 hectares for the Mahor River Project along Kilgoris Longorian Road. In addition, the NLC has scheduled an inquiry concerning five acres adjoining Kenyatta Barracks in Nakuru County.
