Police Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang has pleaded not guilty in the Dr Mutiso murder case at the Milimani High Court. He appeared before Justice Alexander Muteti on a charge of murdering Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The charge particulars state that the medic died in a shooting at approximately 9:30am along Mawensi Road in Kilimani, Nairobi. Prosecutors allege that Sang unlawfully caused her death together with other individuals who have yet to appear in court.
Police arrested Sang in Eldoret before his court appearance. He joins several other suspects already facing charges in connection with the killing.
Prosecutors oppose bail in Dr Mutiso murder case
Following Sang’s plea, the prosecution told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions would oppose his release on bail. Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Victor Owiti led the prosecution team.
The team said it would file an affidavit setting out its reasons for opposing bail. Meanwhile, Sang remains at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending further directions on his bail application.
Other people facing charges include Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her two children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa. Police Constables Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemoi Borboroi also face charges in the case.
The court will give further directions on Sang’s bail application during subsequent proceedings.
