Flooding has disrupted road travel in Nairobi and neighbouring counties.
Kenya Met forecasts five days of rain across several regions as overnight flooding disrupts travel in Nairobi and neighbouring counties.
The Kenya rain forecast points to moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions from October 31 to November 4. The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority expects showers in Nairobi and counties across the Coast, Central Kenya and the west.
The outlook also covers parts of Northern Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin. It follows overnight downpours that triggered flash floods and traffic jams in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos.
Flooded roads and waterlogged drainage channels have disrupted journeys into and out of Nairobi’s central business district. Affected routes include Waiyaki Way, Thika Road, Kiambu Road and Mombasa Road.
Kenya rain forecast for Nairobi, Central and Coast
In Nairobi, the authority forecasts moderate afternoon showers on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, Kiambu can expect moderate rain on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Nyeri’s outlook includes moderate showers on Saturday and Tuesday, while Murang’a can expect moderate rainfall on Saturday and Wednesday. In the southeast, Makueni and Machakos face moderate showers on Saturday, followed by rain on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Along the Coast, Mombasa and Lamu can expect rainfall on Saturday and Wednesday. However, the forecast lists more rainy days for Kwale and Kilifi: Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tana River’s rainfall outlook covers Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Taita Taveta, meanwhile, can expect showers on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Five days of thunderstorms in western counties
For Bomet, Kericho, Kakamega and Kisii, the authority forecasts afternoon showers with thunderstorms throughout the five-day period. The same pattern also extends to several other counties in the western and Rift Valley regions.
These include Narok, Nakuru, Laikipia, Samburu, Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Baringo. Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori can likewise expect afternoon showers and thunderstorms on all five days.
The forecast comes as the October–December short rains begin across Kenya. Meanwhile, concerns over anticipated El Niño conditions have prompted weather warnings and preparedness measures across the country.
In Nairobi and its neighbouring counties, flooding has already affected road travel. The latest outlook places the capital among areas expecting further showers during the five-day period.
