The Toyota Prado struck an electric pole near Oile Park during a police pursuit in Kisumu.
Detectives arrested two men and recovered a pistol and three phones after a Toyota Prado struck an electric pole near Oile Park, the DCI said.
A Kisumu police chase ended with a black Toyota Prado crashing into an electric pole near Oile Park. Detectives arrested two men following the pursuit, which stemmed from a reported robbery, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said.
The DCI said officers shot at the vehicle’s tyres after its driver ignored orders to stop. The Prado, registration KDX 642Y, then veered off the road and struck the pole, damaging its front-right side.
Robbery report triggers Kisumu police chase
The search began after a woman reported that people travelling in a black Prado had robbed her and her friends. She told police that the group had taken five mobile phones.
Acting on intelligence linking the vehicle to the reported robbery, Kisumu Central detectives launched a search. They later traced the Prado to the town and ordered the driver to pull over.
However, the driver allegedly refused to stop and sped away, prompting detectives to pursue the vehicle through town. Officers then opened fire on its tyres, puncturing them and causing the driver to lose control, the DCI said.
Detectives recover pistol and phones
After the crash, detectives arrested William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango as they allegedly attempted to flee the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the Prado yielded a black pistol and three mobile phones. Detectives seized the items as exhibits while investigating the suspects’ possible involvement in robberies in Kisumu and its environs.
The DCI said the two men remained in custody for processing ahead of their expected court appearance. Meanwhile, investigators continued inquiries into whether the suspects had links to other reported robberies across the wider region.
