Police recovered 454 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine in a multi-agency operation in Kwale.
Kenyan and Tanzanian agencies arrest three foreign nationals in an operation targeting an alleged cross-border drug trafficking network.
Police say the Kwale drug seizure has netted 454 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine worth approximately Sh3.6 billion. Officers also arrested three foreign nationals during the multi-agency operation.
The suspects include two Tanzanian nationals and a Ugandan woman. Police said intelligence linked them to a separate recovery of 259 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine in Tanzania.
The National Anti-Narcotics Bureau’s Coast Region led the operation, which involved Kenyan and Tanzanian security agencies. The agencies targeted an alleged international drug trafficking network operating across the border.
Cross-border investigation drives Kwale drug seizure
The operation followed Tanzanian authorities’ arrest of Saleh Khamis, a 45-year-old Tanzanian national, on November 5, 2026. Authorities detained him over alleged drug trafficking.
Tanzanian authorities subsequently handed Khamis over to Kenyan police at the Lunga Lunga–Horohoro border crossing. That handover paved the way for further investigations into the suspected cross-border network.
Police said the intelligence-led operation then culminated in the recovery of the suspected methamphetamine in Kwale. The haul ranks among the major drug interceptions reported in the Coast region.
Meanwhile, investigators are working to establish where the drugs originated and their intended destination. They are also examining whether other individuals took part in the suspected trafficking network.
