Suspected narcotics seizure in Kwale

Police say a cross-border investigation led officers to 454 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and three foreign suspects.

Police have arrested three foreign nationals following a Kwale drug seizure involving 454 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine. The National Police Service (NPS) estimates the consignment’s street value at Ksh3.6 billion.

The multi-agency team also seized two motor vehicles and a motorcycle believed to have links to suspected drug trafficking.

Tip-off leads to Kwale drug seizure

NPS said a tip-off led authorities to intercept a key suspect in Tanzania on November 5, 2026. Tanzanian authorities arrested him while he allegedly possessed narcotics, then handed him to Kenyan police at the Lungalunga-Horohoro border crossing.

During questioning, the suspect directed Kenyan investigators to Shirazi Village in Kingwede Shirazi Location, Msambweni. Officers traced the trail to a second suspect’s residence before further investigations took them to Ganja La Simba Village.

A search at that location in Kinondo uncovered the 454-kilogram consignment of suspected narcotics. Police also arrested a third suspect at the scene, bringing the total number of arrests to three.

Police hold suspects as investigations continue

The three suspects remain in custody as investigators secure the recovered substances and vehicles as exhibits. Police believe the two vehicles and motorcycle have connections to the suspected trafficking activities under investigation.

NPS said the operation followed directives from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to intensify efforts against narcotics.

The seizure follows the destruction of another methamphetamine consignment at Bamburi Cement Factory in Mombasa County on September 24. That consignment weighed 1,024 kilograms and carried an estimated value of Ksh8.2 billion.

The Kenyan Navy had intercepted those drugs aboard the stateless vessel MV Mashallaah in October 2025, 630 kilometres offshore. That interception led to the prosecution of six Iranian nationals, with INTERPOL and US authorities collaborating in the case.
