Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims that the government plans to ban live election results coverage. He said the coming General Election would follow constitutional requirements and allow live-streaming of results.

Kindiki rejected allegations that the administration intended to weaken democratic freedoms or undermine the electoral process. Instead, he said the government would protect transparency and Kenyans’ freedom to choose their leaders.

He described the administration as a beneficiary of a credible and transparent election in 2022. For that reason, he said, it had a responsibility to safeguard the electoral environment.

The Deputy President also urged candidates to avoid violence and conduct that could threaten national stability. He stressed that political competition should not come at the expense of peace.

Kindiki said winners should take office, while unsuccessful candidates should wait for another opportunity to contest. He added that the country mattered more than any individual’s electoral ambitions.

Hostel and road projects in Kinangop

During the visit, Kindiki inspected construction of a 580-bed hostel at the Kenya Medical Training Centre’s Kinangop Campus. The project costs KSh232 million.

He later launched construction of the Mwenda Andu-Heni-Karati Road in the constituency. The road forms part of a KSh46 billion programme to tarmac 1,000 kilometres across Nyandarua County.

Other ongoing road projects in Kinangop include Njabini-Sasumua, Chole-Matundura and Haraka-Karangatha-Kinamba. Meanwhile, work on the Kwa Waichangai-Kinja-Kitiri-Kitogo Road is set to begin.

Kindiki assured residents that he would push for timely completion of the projects. He described supporting their delivery as a central part of his role as the President’s assistant.

Housing and electricity connections

Nyandarua also has ongoing affordable housing projects, including 220 units in Engineer within Kinangop Constituency.

In addition, the last-mile electricity programme has a KSh1.6 billion allocation to connect 12,500 more households across the county. Of that amount, KSh400 million will support connections for another 3,200 households in Kinangop.

Kindiki said he and the President would seek another term by presenting their development record to voters. That assessment, he said, would cover roads, water projects, electricity connections and markets.

Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku and other local leaders accompanied the Deputy President during the visit.
