Missing Nairobi advocate Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi

LSK urges police to find Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi and investigate whether his disappearance relates to a criminal case in which he is a key witness.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for urgent investigations into missing Nairobi lawyer Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi’s disappearance. It raised concerns about a possible link to a criminal case in which he is a complainant and key witness.

LSK President Charles Kanjama said armed men reportedly abducted the advocate on November 2, 2026. The incident occurred that morning along Muchai Road, off Ngong Road, in Nairobi.

In its statement, LSK said two vehicles pursued Abdi, who practises at Abshir & Njagi Advocates. They were a Toyota Prado TX and a double-cab vehicle, both reportedly carrying armed occupants.

Some individuals allegedly wore what appeared to be police uniforms and bulletproof vests. Abdi’s vehicle was later recovered along the same road, but his whereabouts remain unknown.

Missing Nairobi lawyer linked to witness role

LSK said Abdi is reportedly a complainant and key witness in Criminal Case No. MCCR/E2910/2025, Republic v Ahmed Ali Mohamed. The case is before the Makadara Law Courts.

The Society also said it had received earlier correspondence alleging threats and intimidation connected to those proceedings. It therefore called for urgent, independent and impartial investigations into the allegations.

Kanjama warned that an advocate’s abduction over professional duties threatens justice, legal independence and the rule of law. The Society also cautioned that intimidation prevents lawyers from participating freely in court proceedings.

Citing Article 29 of the Constitution, LSK stressed the right to freedom and security. That protection includes safeguards against arbitrary deprivation of liberty.

LSK calls for police action and oversight

LSK urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to establish Abdi’s whereabouts and secure his safe return. It also asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to identify those responsible and preserve evidence, including CCTV footage and witness accounts.

Meanwhile, the Society called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to examine the alleged police connection. It wants IPOA to establish whether serving officers or other State agents participated in, facilitated or sanctioned the incident.

LSK said everyone responsible should face personal accountability, regardless of rank or office. It further demanded Abdi’s immediate, unconditional production if any State agency or other person is holding him.

A habeas corpus application concerning the disappearance is before the court, with directions scheduled for November 9, 2026. LSK urged the court to handle it promptly and called for full compliance with any orders.

The Society also pledged to pursue legal and institutional action to secure Abdi’s return.
