Nairobi Water says pipeline connection works will interrupt supply to Kasarani, Roysambu, Kayole, Ruai and neighbouring areas.

A planned Nairobi water shutdown will interrupt supplies to several city estates for 29 hours from November 5, 2026. Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced the interruption in a public notice on November 4.

The shutdown will start at 3am on Thursday, November 5, and end at 8am on Friday, November 6. Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) will shut the Karimenu Transmission pipeline to carry out critical connection works.

Affected areas include Kasarani, Mwiki, Clay City, Ruai, Njiru and surrounding neighbourhoods. Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa Barracks, Kenyatta University and neighbouring estates will also experience the interruption.

The notice further lists all of Kayole, Komarock, Soweto and Matopeni among the affected areas. Nairobi Water urged customers in these neighbourhoods to use their available water sparingly during the shutdown.

Nairobi water shutdown follows October pipeline closure

The planned interruption follows another shutdown announced on October 26 after the emergency closure of the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline. That three-day interruption formed part of ongoing maintenance and repair works on major transmission pipelines serving Nairobi.

AWWDA carried out that shutdown, with the schedule running from 11:59pm on October 26 to 11:59pm on October 29. Affected estates included Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Lang’ata, Karen and Upper Hill.

The October interruption also affected Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital. In addition, the affected areas included neighbourhoods around Wilson Airport, Nairobi West, Madaraka and Uhuru Gardens.
