Kakamega Senator Khalwale Alleges Government Withdrew His Security Over Politics
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale claims the government has withdrawn his security detail due to political differences. Speaking to reporters in Kakamega town, Khalwale said his six bodyguards were ordered to leave without prior notice.
This follows Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s claim that his own security team was pulled earlier.
Khalwale alleges the move is meant to intimidate opposition leaders ahead of Thursday’s by-elections.
The security withdrawals come after recent violence in the region. On Saturday, November 22, armed assailants ambushed Governor Natembeya at Chwele Ward in Kabuchai, Bungoma County. The attackers also targeted Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga’s residence.
Videos and photos show Natembeya’s vehicles destroyed. The governor claims he was shot at multiple times during the attack. He linked the chaos to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, his political rival.
