Johnson Sakaja has announced a 30-day waiver on property repair levies in Nairobi. The directive took effect on March 11, 2026. It follows devastating flash floods that hit the city on March 6.

Areas Hit Hardest by the Floods
Several residential areas experienced significant damage during the heavy rains. Among the hardest hit neighborhoods are South C, South B, and Nairobi West.
Floodwaters submerged houses, roads, and businesses across these locations. Therefore, many residents urgently require structural repairs.
The waiver offers temporary relief to affected homeowners and business operators.
Key Details of the Repair Waiver
The Nairobi County Government confirmed the waiver will last one month. Therefore, the exemption will run until mid-April 2026 During this period, residents can repair damaged structures without paying approval fees.
Normally, property repairs require permits and statutory charges. However, the county has temporarily removed these requirements.
The decision applies to homes, businesses, and public facilities damaged by floods. Consequently, residents can begin repairs without bureaucratic delays.
