Kingi and Wetang’ula visited Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi home during his recovery.
The parliamentary speakers led lawmakers to see the ODM leader, who continues working from home after leaving hospital.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula visited Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi home on November 4. They led lawmakers from both Houses of Parliament as the ODM leader continued recovering from illness.
Oburu, who also serves as Siaya Senator, left Nairobi Hospital on October 19 following his admission on October 2. He is now recuperating at home while continuing his parliamentary work, Wetang’ula said.
In a statement after the meeting, Wetang’ula said the delegation felt encouraged by the senator’s recovery. He also said Oburu had not abandoned his parliamentary responsibilities and remained engaged while away from the Senate.
The National Assembly Speaker described Oburu as cheerful, saying he entertained the visitors with his familiar humour. However, he urged the senator to give his health priority and allow enough recovery time before resuming political engagements.
Oburu Oginga calls for dialogue and unity
Wetang’ula said Oburu expected to return to active duty soon, although illness had temporarily slowed his political activities. Meanwhile, the ODM leader thanked the parliamentary leadership for checking on him during his recovery.
Oburu said their conversation went beyond his personal welfare to include questions about Kenya’s future. He stressed the importance of national unity, peace and cohesion, while urging political leaders to tolerate differing views.
He also called on leaders to seek common ground and place Kenya’s interests ahead of political differences. In his message to the visiting delegation, Oburu presented dialogue as an essential path towards national healing and progress.
