National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi led legislators to visit ODM leader Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi home. The Siaya Senator is recovering there after leaving hospital.

MPs and senators joined the two Speakers in wishing him a speedy and full recovery. During the visit, Wetangula urged Oburu to put his health first before resuming political engagements.

Oburu thanked the delegation and expressed his determination to return to active politics once he fully recovers. He also entertained his visitors with humour and jokes.

Speakers encourage Oburu Oginga to prioritise recovery

Wetangula said Oburu’s progress had encouraged the delegation. However, he advised the ODM leader against rushing back into political work before completing his recovery.

The National Assembly Speaker also praised Oburu’s courage and determination in facing his medical challenges. Kingi, meanwhile, said the Senate missed the Siaya Senator’s contributions to proceedings and debates.

He added that senators valued Oburu’s guidance in national politics and prayed for his return to duty. In response, Oburu said the visit by both Speakers and fellow legislators had deeply touched him.

The delegation included Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli and Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo. Senators William Kisang and Daniel Maanzo also joined the visit.

Other visitors included National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Parliamentary Commissioner Mishi Mboko and MP Eve Obara.

ODM leader dismisses false death reports

Oburu also addressed false social media reports that declared him dead while he was receiving hospital treatment. He said those claims had strengthened his resolve to fight his illness.

The ODM leader told the delegation that he was recovering and growing stronger each day. Although illness had slowed his political activities, he remained confident about returning to his engagements.

He said he missed taking part in parliamentary debates and active political discussions. However, he asked supporters to remain patient and continue praying for him while he completes his recovery.

Oburu represents Siaya County in the Senate and leads the Orange Democratic Movement. His planned return would bring him back to both parliamentary work and party politics.
