A public tip-off helped police arrest a man accused of impersonating a General Service Unit (GSU) officer and extorting Nairobi residents.

Officers from Jogoo Road Police Station arrested Augustine Mjomba Mwadime on November 5, 2026. They found him at DC Stage along Jogoo Road.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mwadime claimed to hold the rank of GSU Sergeant. He also told officers that he worked at the GSU Training School in Embakasi.

Police Recover Fake Appointment Documents

Detectives searched Mwadime and recovered items that allegedly helped him impersonate a police officer.

The DCI listed the recovered items as:

  • A forged police appointment certificate bearing a fictitious service number.
  • A pair of handcuffs.
  • Two handcuff keys.

Investigators say Mwadime used the police-related items to intimidate members of the public and support his impersonation claims.

The discoveries reportedly exposed his claims as fraudulent. Police then took him into custody for further processing.

DCI Urges Public to Report Suspected Impersonators

Authorities are processing Mwadime ahead of his expected court appearance. Meanwhile, the DCI has urged Kenyans to remain alert and report individuals who falsely present themselves as security officers.

Members of the public can share information through the agency’s toll-free number, 0800 722 203. The arrest follows a public tip-off and highlights the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement. Mwadime remains an accused person and is presumed innocent unless a court finds him guilty.
