Police have arrested 17 suspected members of the notorious Kayole Gang during a security operation in Tana River County.

The multi-agency team conducted the intelligence-led crackdown in Madogo and Mororo towns. The operation targeted a criminal network that authorities accuse of terrorising residents.

In an update shared on X, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrests and reported the recovery of suspected narcotics and crude weapons.

Police Recover Drugs and Crude Weapons

During the operation, officers raided an alleged drug-peddling den and recovered a consignment of suspected narcotic substances.

The security team also seized several crude weapons that investigators believe the suspects used to commit crimes. Police secured all recovered items at the station as exhibits to support investigations and possible court proceedings.

Seventeen Suspects Remain in Police Custody

Officers arrested 17 people suspected of belonging to the Kayole Gang. They remain in police custody as authorities prepare to present them in court.

However, the suspects remain innocent until a court establishes their guilt. The NPS described the operation as part of wider efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore security in affected communities.

Police Promise More Security Operations

The National Police Service says it will continue conducting targeted operations across the country to tackle criminal activity.

Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant and share useful information with security agencies. Members of the public can report emergencies through 999. They can also contact the Directorate of Criminal Investigations through its toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203.

The police have encouraged residents to use official communication channels when reporting suspicious activities. The crackdown marks another security operation targeting suspected criminal networks in Tana River County.
