Patricia Mala broke down while explaining that the 32-year-old Mombasa businesswoman can no longer speak or manage basic daily activities. She now handles her daughter’s everyday needs, including tasks Roselyn previously managed independently.

Roselyn Ashanti’s health after birthday celebration
Roselyn, popularly known as Chunna, reportedly collapsed while celebrating her 32nd birthday on February 14, 2026. Friends and relatives attended the gathering on Valentine’s Day.
She went to hospital after the collapse, where doctors reportedly suspected exposure to a poisonous substance. Accounts of her medical ordeal indicate that she spent several months in intensive care and suffered significant brain damage. She is now bedridden.
Her friend Jane Musyoka said doctors had mentioned possible exposure to zinc or lead. However, the precise cause of Roselyn’s condition remains unclear, and neither substance represents a confirmed explanation.
Before her health declined, Roselyn ran several Airbnb establishments in Mombasa, Nairobi and other towns. Her mother’s account describes a marked change from that working life to dependence on daily care.

Roselyn’s brother, Fabian Mala, has also questioned what happened during the celebration. He asked why his sister appeared to be the only person at the gathering to suffer such severe consequences.

Meanwhile, Patricia has criticised speculation circulating on TikTok about her daughter’s condition. She accused some users of sharing unverified claims as the family deals with Roselyn’s care.
Patricia also rejected speculation about her daughter’s nationality, clarifying that Roselyn is Kenyan and of Kamba origin. Her immediate responsibility remains helping her daughter with the daily activities she can no longer perform alone.
