Cleophas Malalah says he will seek Kalonzo Musyoka’s backing for Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.
The DCP deputy leader says he will meet Kalonzo on Monday as opposition camps discuss a joint presidential ticket for 2027.
DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malalah says he will seek Kalonzo Musyoka’s support for the Sifuna presidential bid on Monday. The planned meeting forms part of efforts to unite opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Malalah wants the Wiper Patriotic Front leader to back Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna against President William Ruto. However, Kalonzo has yet to indicate whether he will endorse the senator.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party deputy leader has already declared his support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions. He argues that the senator needs backing from leaders and communities across Kenya to mount a competitive campaign.
Malalah seeks wider backing for Sifuna presidential bid
Malalah has also urged DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua to support Sifuna. The former Kakamega senator says the Luhya community alone cannot deliver the presidency without alliances with other regions.
In August, he publicly pledged support for Sifuna and said he was engaging Gachagua to broaden that backing. He has since urged the Nairobi senator to build partnerships beyond Western Kenya.
The proposed Kalonzo meeting would bring the Wiper leader into those discussions. His position will matter as opposition parties explore how to combine their political support ahead of the polls.
Opposition camps discuss a joint ticket
Meanwhile, leaders allied to Gachagua and Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi faction have renewed consultations on a common candidate. Representatives met on October 20 at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.
Malalah said the two camps agreed to work towards a united opposition presidential ticket. They also committed to backing whoever emerges as the preferred candidate, with selection talks to follow further consultations.
Gachagua has indicated that he could consider becoming Sifuna’s running mate if the senator secures the opposition’s backing. However, that possibility remains subject to negotiations rather than a settled agreement.
Sifuna and his allies are also seeking support through the Linda Mwananchi movement, which campaigns against Ruto’s administration. The opposition has not yet chosen a joint presidential candidate.
Further discussions are expected to cover candidate selection, running-mate options and the structure of a broader alliance. Malalah’s planned engagement with Kalonzo adds to those efforts, but no endorsement has been confirmed.
