Security teams recovered the animals after exchanging gunfire with suspected bandits and continue to pursue the remaining livestock.
A Turkana livestock recovery operation has recovered 445 sheep and goats stolen from Kaloriwo Village. The National Police Service (NPS) said officers exchanged gunfire with suspected bandits during the multi-agency pursuit.
Security teams recovered the animals in two stages, with the first yielding 365 sheep and goats. A backup team later recovered another 80 as officers continued tracking the suspects.
Turkana livestock recovery follows armed pursuit
The NPS said security agencies launched the operation after the theft in Kaloriwo Village, Turkana County. Officers pursued the suspected perpetrators, who fled after the exchange of gunfire and abandoned some animals.
However, the suspects escaped with other livestock, prompting security teams to maintain the pursuit. The backup team’s subsequent recovery brought the total number of recovered animals to 445.
Owners receive first batch of animals
Officers have already handed the initial 365 sheep and goats back to their rightful owners. Meanwhile, the additional 80 animals await identification before officers can return them to their owners.
The NPS said security personnel remain on the ground to recover the outstanding livestock and track down suspects. Multiple security agencies are taking part in the operation to recover stolen property and apprehend those responsible.
Efforts therefore continue beyond the recovery of the 445 animals. The NPS said officers are pursuing leads as they work to return the remaining livestock and bring the suspects to justice.
