Sony’s Prism Collection introduces three colour options for its see-through PS5 controllers.
Sony brings see-through designs to PS5 controllers, with matching console covers and preorders opening on November 10.
Sony has announced transparent DualSense controllers for the PS5, bringing see-through styling to its new Prism Collection. The range comes in orange, green and grey, with matching console covers also joining the lineup.
Preorders open directly through PlayStation on November 10, while shipments will begin in February. Each controller costs $85, and the console covers cost $75.
Transparent DualSense controllers revive a familiar look
The controllers feature a glossy, clear finish that continues across the back, Sony says. This allows users to see some of the technology inside the DualSense rather than an opaque shell.
The design also recalls the translucent gadgets popular during the late 1990s and early 2000s. A Sony representative said the company aimed to revive that trend while complementing the PS5’s modern industrial design.
Sony first introduced translucent controllers during the original PlayStation era. Since then, every PlayStation generation has featured see-through gamepads at some point, with the PS5 now continuing that tradition.
Matching console covers offer a different effect
Alongside the controllers, Sony will offer console plate covers in the same orange, green and grey options. Buyers can therefore match their PS5’s exterior with their chosen controller colour.
However, the covers will not reveal the console’s internal components, unlike the clear controller shells. They fit over the console, so the matching colours provide a coordinated look rather than a view inside.
Both product types share the same preorder opening date and February shipping window. Sony’s announced prices put the controllers $10 above the matching console covers.
