Witnesses say a speeding saloon car struck a woman at Kenol Stage before boda boda riders set the wreckage on fire.
Three people died and others suffered injuries in a Ngong Road crash at Kenol Stage in Nairobi on Thursday morning, October 29. Boda boda riders later set the car ablaze near Raila Odinga International Stadium, witnesses said.
The crash occurred at about 7:25am and involved a dark blue saloon car travelling from the Ngong side. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was moving at high speed before the driver lost control.
Witnesses describe Ngong Road crash
According to witnesses, the car hit the pavement, veered off the road and struck a woman waiting for a matatu. She had been waiting to travel to town and reportedly died at the scene.
Meanwhile, rescuers and members of the public rushed to help those caught in the crash. Images shared online showed the extensively damaged vehicle engulfed in flames as people gathered nearby.
Witnesses said boda boda riders set fire to the wreckage after the collision. They claimed the riders wanted to drive away bad omens associated with the fatal incident.
Eyewitnesses also alleged that police recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage.
Fatal collision follows highway bus tragedy
The incident comes four days after a bus and a lorry collided on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. That crash killed at least 22 people on Sunday, October 25, 2026, and left others injured.
The victims belonged to Power of the Word Church International and the Mombasa Pastors Fellowship. They were returning from their bishop’s burial in Lugari, Kakamega County.
The group left Kakamega at about 4pm on Saturday, October 24, after deciding to travel overnight. At around 7am on Sunday, the bus stopped in Mtito Andei so passengers could stretch and have breakfast.
However, about 15 minutes after the journey resumed, the bus collided head-on with a lorry. The collision happened in the Kanga area within Tsavo West National Park.
Meanwhile, the National Transport and Safety Authority has intensified crackdowns on reckless drivers and unroadworthy vehicles along major roads. Its figures show that road crashes killed 3,995 people nationwide between January 1 and October 4, 2026.
