Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has dismissed online claims that he could return to radio if he loses the 2027 Nairobi senatorial race.

The lawmaker responded to critics who have been joking about his political future following Winnie Odinga’s declaration of interest in the Nairobi Senate seat.

Some social media users suggested Jalang’o might need the contact of his former radio co-host, Alex Mwakideu, if his political ambitions fail. However, the MP insists that he is focused on leadership rather than a return to broadcasting.

Jalang’o Rules Out Radio Return

Speaking on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Jalang’o dismissed suggestions that he was preparing to return to radio.

“Sioni tukirudi radio,” he said, meaning he did not see himself returning to radio.

The former radio presenter also defended the media industry, arguing that broadcasting remains a financially rewarding career for established personalities.

He explained that building a strong personal brand can create lasting opportunities in the media industry. Jalang’o also questioned why some social media users appeared eager to see him fail politically.

“Niliwakosea wapi jamani?” he asked, meaning, “Where did I go wrong with you guys?”

Despite the criticism, he maintained that his immediate focus remains on leadership and his political ambitions.

Winnie Odinga’s Senate Bid Raises Stakes

The Nairobi Senate race has attracted attention following Winnie Odinga’s reported declaration of interest in the seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Her potential candidacy could set up a contest within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where Jalang’o has also expressed interest in the position.

The contest could become particularly significant if incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna decides to pursue another political seat. However, his future plans and the eventual ODM nomination field will determine how the race develops. Jalang’o has previously signalled that he is prepared to compete for the party ticket rather than step aside.

Jalang’o Stands Firm on His Political Ambitions

Jalang’o entered Parliament after winning the Lang’ata constituency seat in the 2022 General Election. Before joining politics, he built a following through radio, comedy and entertainment.

His transition from media to politics has continued to attract both support and criticism.

The upcoming election could test his political support as candidates position themselves for party nominations and the Nairobi Senate contest.

For now, Jalang’o has made his position clear: he is not planning a return to radio and remains focused on his political future. The final outcome will depend on party nominations, the candidates who enter the race and voters’ decisions in 2027.
