Football fans planning to attend events at Nairobi’s Talanta Stadium will need to check the venue’s security rules before arriving.

The 60,000-seat facility, officially known as Raila Odinga International Stadium, is preparing to host major sporting events, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The restrictions aim to support crowd safety and ensure smooth entry.

Bags and Outside Food Face Restrictions

According to the report, large backpacks, duffel bags, briefcases and hard-sided cases are prohibited. Fans should therefore travel light and check the permitted bag sizes before leaving home. Outside food and drinks are also restricted, alongside glass containers, cans, coolers, thermoses and alcohol.

The rules may affect spectators who usually carry snacks or drinks to football matches. Visitors should confirm whether any exceptions apply before arriving.

Cameras and Noise-Making Devices

The reported restrictions also cover certain cameras and electronic equipment. Professional cameras with detachable lenses longer than six inches, video-recording equipment and GoPros with extension poles are among the listed items.

Vuvuzelas, air horns, whistles, megaphones and large drums are also prohibited under the reported guidelines. Drones, remote-controlled aircraft and laser pointers are restricted as well. Fans planning to capture photographs or videos should check the venue’s current media and photography policy.

Weapons, Flares and Offensive Banners

Weapons and potentially dangerous objects are prohibited, according to the report. These include firearms, knives, sharp objects, fireworks, flares and smoke devices. Political, commercial and offensive signage is also restricted.

The reported rules further cover certain large flags and banners, skateboards, scooters, bicycles and other bulky items.

Spectators should follow instructions from security officers at the entrances. Security personnel may refuse entry to people carrying items considered unsafe.

Where Is Talanta Stadium Located?

Talanta Stadium stands at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi. A parliamentary inspection report identified the eastern plaza along Jamhuri Road as the principal spectator entrance. The stadium has nine entry and exit gates serving spectators, players, media, VIPs and emergency services.

However, visitors should follow the entrance indicated on their ticket or event instructions. Gate assignments and access arrangements may vary depending on the event.

Tips for a Smooth Stadium Visit

Fans can reduce delays by preparing before match day.

  • Carry your ticket: Keep your valid ticket accessible for inspection.
  • Travel light: Avoid large bags and unnecessary belongings.
  • Arrive early: Allow enough time for security screening and walking to your seat.
  • Check transport plans: Expect traffic around Jamhuri Grounds during major events.
  • Follow staff instructions: Use the entrance assigned to your ticket and remain in your designated seating area.
  • Confirm the latest rules: Check official event announcements for changes to prohibited items and entry procedures.

Check Before You Leave Home

Talanta Stadium is expected to become an important venue for Kenyan football and major international sporting events. Understanding the entry rules can help spectators avoid delays or being turned away at the gates.

Because event-specific arrangements may change, fans should confirm the latest restrictions with the stadium or event organisers before travelling. The prohibited-items list and emergency contact details should not be treated as final unless the venue officially confirms them.
