Tanzanian singer Zuchu has reached a major milestone after becoming the first female artist from East Africa to hit 5 million YouTube subscribers.
The WCB Wasafi star celebrated the achievement on October 20, 2026, sharing the news with fans recently on Instagram. The milestone adds to her growing influence in African music and highlights the power of digital platforms in expanding artists’ audiences.
From Zanzibar to Music Stardom
Born Zuhura Othman Soud, Zuchu hails from Zanzibar, Tanzania, and grew up in a family with strong musical roots. Her mother, Khadija Kopa, is a celebrated taarab singer who helped shape her early exposure to music.
Zuchu entered the mainstream music scene in April 2020 when Diamond Platnumz introduced her under his WCB Wasafi record label.
She quickly attracted attention with her debut project, I Am Zuchu, and established herself as one of Tanzania’s rising female stars.
‘Sukari’ Boosted Her Popularity
One of Zuchu’s biggest breakthroughs came with Sukari, a love song whose catchy melody and Swahili lyrics resonated with audiences across the region.
She has since expanded her catalogue with songs such as Kwikwi, Nyumba Ndogo and Wana. Her collaborations with artists including Diamond Platnumz and Nigerian singer Joeboy have also helped introduce her music to wider audiences.
Her sound blends Bongo Flava and Afropop with influences from taarab, giving her music a distinctive Tanzanian identity.

A Milestone for Female Artists
The five-million-subscriber achievement places Zuchu among Africa’s prominent female music acts on YouTube. It also builds on her earlier digital success. She previously became the first female artist from East Africa to reach one million subscribers on the platform.
Her growing audience demonstrates how artists can use online platforms to connect with listeners beyond their home countries.
Zuchu’s Digital Influence Continues to Grow
YouTube remains an important platform for music discovery, particularly for artists seeking audiences across Africa and the diaspora.
For Zuchu, the latest milestone reflects years of consistent releases, collaborations and fan engagement. As she continues to grow her catalogue, the Tanzanian singer’s achievement offers another example of East African music gaining visibility in the digital era.
