Hussein Mohammed will serve as deputy chairman. Meanwhile, Anthony Lung’aho Inzihuli will head the secretariat and serve as chief executive officer.

AFCON 2027 preparations move towards implementation

Mvurya urged the committee to shift from planning to implementation, with a focus on operational readiness. He also stressed coordination, strategic partnerships, financial accountability and meeting delivery deadlines.

The committee includes Football Kenya Federation Vice-President McDonald Mariga and National Executive Committee representative Robert Macharia. Former FKF NEC member Timothy Nabea and former AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda also join the team.

Other members include Gabriel Mghendi, Peter Kamau, Kerubo Momanyi, Benard Lagat, Collins Kalee and Caleb Amwayi. Ken Rungu, Charles Njagi, Thomas Karugu, Evelyn Cheluget and Miriam Chepkoech are also on the roster.

Rodgers Chimega, Diana Injendi Manyengo and Collins Were feature among the named members. The committee also draws representation from finance, technical matters, refereeing, legal affairs and youth development.

Its mandate includes bringing relevant agencies and stakeholders together to meet agreed preparation targets. Mvurya said members must deliver a competition that meets expectations from fans, teams and the Confederation of African Football.

Planned Bayern-Ajax match to test readiness

Kenya’s preparations also include developing Talanta Sports City, officially known as the Raila Odinga International Stadium. The venue is expected to expand the country’s capacity to stage major international football matches.

Meanwhile, Mvurya identified a planned Bayern Munich-Ajax encounter as an opportunity to assess Kenya’s readiness. The proposed match is scheduled for January 5, 2027.

The event would test security, transport, logistics, crowd management, operational systems and the overall fan experience. Mvurya also said representatives from both clubs had visited Kenya to assess its hosting capacity.

To support preparations, the government is bringing together agencies responsible for security, immigration, tourism, travel and hospitality. The tournament is expected to draw thousands of supporters, officials and international visitors.

That influx could create business opportunities for hotels, airlines, tour operators, transport firms and other service providers. Beyond the matches, Mvurya said the government wants a lasting legacy in sport, tourism, investment and economic opportunities.
