Rescue operations continue after a building under construction collapsed on Eastleigh’s 9th Street.
Police say rescuers continue searching the rubble on 9th Street and urge families seeking relatives to contact the Kenya Red Cross desk.
Rescuers have pulled four survivors from the rubble following the Eastleigh building collapse along Nairobi’s 9th Street. The survivors are receiving hospital treatment as emergency teams continue searching for anyone who may remain trapped.
In its Sunday, October 26 update, the National Police Service said officers continued to support the rescue operation. The multi-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed on Friday.
Meanwhile, a multi-agency response has brought rescue personnel and specialised equipment to the scene. Teams are working through the debris to locate and assist anyone still beneath it.
Eastleigh building collapse rescue efforts continue
Police confirmed that the four survivors were receiving medical attention but did not disclose their identities. The statement also gave no details about the circumstances of their rescue.
However, the latest update did not provide a comprehensive count of people still missing. Emergency responders therefore continue searching while families await information about relatives who may have been caught in the collapse.
Where families can seek information
Families seeking information about relatives should report to the Kenya Red Cross desk at the scene, police said. They can also call the emergency response number, 1199, for assistance.
Police said these arrangements would help families obtain information as the search continues. The service also expressed sympathy to the families and friends of those affected and pledged continued support for the response.
Meanwhile, police urged the public to stay away from the affected area so responders can work without obstruction. The appeal specifically covers Yusuf Haji Avenue and 9th Street, where teams and equipment need clear access.
Members of the public should also follow instructions from emergency responders throughout the operation.
Police investigate cause of collapse
Alongside the rescue effort, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the building’s collapse. However, the latest statement offered no further details on what caused the structure to fall.
The National Police Service said it would release more information as the operation progresses. For now, responders remain focused on searching the rubble and assisting anyone they find.
