RDU officers fired teargas into the meeting room at Three Steers Hotel, forcing delegates and federation officials to leave before proceedings began.

Police disrupted the FKF Special General Meeting in Meru on Saturday after firing teargas into the venue. Delegates and federation officials left Three Steers Hotel before proceedings could begin.

The Football Kenya Federation said Police Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) officers entered the room where delegates were seated. Members of the General Assembly had gathered there and were waiting for the meeting to start.

In its November 7 update, FKF said the police operation had prevented the meeting from commencing.

FKF Special General Meeting disruption raises concern

The federation expressed concern over the operation, saying it interfered with a constitutional process. It said General Assembly members had convened the meeting under the FKF constitution to conduct federation business.

Meanwhile, FKF officials exited the hotel with their hands raised during the police operation. The teargas forced those attending to abandon the gathering before delegates could address the business that brought them together.

The disruption followed McDonald Mariga’s arrival at the venue accompanied by RDU officers, as footage and accounts from the scene indicated. FKF also said it would issue further updates as the situation developed, with the meeting’s status remaining uncertain.
