The Narok Law Courts sentenced Pascal Chacha over trafficking 47.3 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Chief Magistrate Hezron Nyaberi sentenced Pascal Chacha over 47.3 kilogrammes of cannabis valued at Sh1.4 million.
A Narok court has sentenced Pascal Chacha to 50 years in prison or a Sh50 million fine for bhang trafficking.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the Narok Law Courts convicted Chacha over 47.3 kilogrammes of cannabis. The drugs had an estimated value of Sh1.4 million.
Chief Magistrate Hezron Nyaberi considered the quantity involved when handing down the sentence. He also weighed the need to protect the public from the effects of drug trafficking.
Bhang trafficking case relied on driver’s evidence
Prosecutors told the court that Chacha trafficked the cannabis jointly with others on February 10, 2025. The offence took place along the Narok-Suswa Road in Ntulele, Narok East Sub-County.
A public service matatu was transporting the drugs when authorities arrested Chacha. During the prosecution, a plea bargain secured evidence from the matatu driver, who subsequently became a state witness.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Gitonga Murang’a led the prosecution team. Principal Prosecution Counsel James Kigo and Prosecution Counsel Leone Wandera also handled the case.
In explaining the sentence, the ODPP said the court treated the substantial quantity of cannabis as an aggravating factor. The court therefore considered a deterrent sentence warranted.
