Juja Road robbery incident in Nairobi

Police say a suspect tried to stab an officer during a chase after patrol officers interrupted an attack on a woman.

Police shot dead a suspect during a foiled Juja Road robbery in Nairobi on Saturday evening. Officers also arrested a second suspect after pursuing the pair towards Kosovo Slums.

The National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Pangani Police Station encountered two men allegedly robbing a woman. The officers were on patrol, and police said both suspects carried knives.

When the officers intervened, the men abandoned the robbery and fled towards Kosovo Slums. The officers then pursued them and caught up with them shortly afterwards.

However, one suspect allegedly drew a knife and tried to stab an officer during the arrest attempt. The NPS said the officer fired because he faced an immediate threat to his life, fatally injuring the suspect.

Juja Road robbery recovery and patrols

Following the shooting, police recovered a mini pistol, a knife and a mobile phone during a search. The NPS identified the phone as one stolen from the woman during the attempted robbery.

Officers also apprehended the second suspect following the chase. The service said it would continue patrols and targeted operations to prevent and disrupt criminal activity.

Meanwhile, the NPS urged members of the public to remain vigilant as the year draws to a close. It said robbery, theft and other opportunistic offences have consistently increased during this period.
