Delegates vote to remove Mariga and six other NEC members at a special meeting chaired by FKF president Hussein Mohammed.

Football Kenya Federation delegates removed vice-president MacDonald Mariga from the National Executive Committee on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Six other committee members also lost their positions at the Special General Meeting in Meru.

Sixty-five delegates backed the proposal to revoke Mariga’s position. However, AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani opposed it, casting the only vote against the former Inter Milan midfielder’s removal.

FKF president Hussein Mohammed chaired the afternoon meeting at Three Steers Hotel. Earlier, rival factions had clashed verbally during a tense morning that drew in Rapid Deployment Unit police officers. Teargas filled the hotel as the factions confronted each other.

Delegates also expelled Nairobi representative Dan Shikanda, Nyanza’s Collins Kalee and Rift Valley’s Bernard Lagat. The other members were women’s representative Violet Kerubo, Central’s Robert Macharia and Coast’s Gabriel Mghendi.

After the vote, Hussein said the federation had invited all seven members to present their defence before the assembly. However, none appeared to make submissions or sent a representative, he said.

Hussein also said none of the seven had responded in writing to the invitation. He added that they had the option of nominating a legal representative but did not do so.

The afternoon session proceeded despite the earlier confrontation, with delegates voting to remove the seven NEC members.
