Cracks in the administration block at Marigat Sub-County Hospital have raised safety concerns.
Hospital management moves emergency patients to wards as residents question construction standards at the recently commissioned Baringo facility.
Marigat hospital cracks have prompted the transfer of emergency patients to wards at the Level 4 facility in Baringo South. Large cracks in its administration block have raised safety concerns for patients and healthcare workers.
The hospital’s medical superintendent said management moved all patients from the emergency wing to the ward section as a precaution. Meanwhile, residents have demanded answers about the building’s safety and construction standards.
Marigat hospital cracks raise safety concerns
Images of Marigat Sub-County Hospital show visible cracks in sections of the administration block. Residents say the damage threatens their safety, and some want authorities to demolish the building.
One resident described the cracks as immediately noticeable on entering the hospital. The resident also questioned plans to elevate the facility to Level 5 while calling for demolition of the existing structure.
Beyond the immediate safety concerns, residents are seeking explanations about project supervision and contractor compliance. They also question whether public spending on the hospital delivered a safe facility for the community.
The concerns affect a hospital intended to bring essential treatment closer to Baringo residents. Its services aim to reduce the long journeys residents make to seek medical care.
Facility earmarked for Ksh1 billion upgrade
President William Ruto officially commissioned the upgraded hospital in March 2026. The facility includes maternity and neonatal wings, inpatient wards and diagnostic units designed to improve local healthcare access.
Ruto had also participated in the hospital’s development in October 2023. Later, in October 2026, he directed its elevation to Level 5 status through a Ksh1 billion injection.
Residents and the County Government of Baringo welcomed the proposed expansion of healthcare services. However, the cracks have now shifted residents’ attention to the safety of the existing building.
The patient transfers come as residents press for accountability over construction quality. Their demands centre on whether the hospital’s current structure can safely accommodate those who depend on its services.
