Police recovered 3,000 sheep and goats after an armed raid in Marsabit.
Security teams recovered 3,000 animals after a Marsabit ambush and another 75 following a separate pursuit into Isiolo.
A Marsabit livestock recovery operation retrieved 3,000 sheep and goats after an armed attack on herders on Tuesday. The National Police Service (NPS) said a multi-agency team intercepted the suspects in Loiyangalani Sub-County.
The herders were moving their animals from Mouwokiteng towards Lardapach when suspected armed bandits ambushed them. The attackers seized the livestock and began driving the animals towards Arapal.
In response, security agencies mobilised a team to pursue the attackers and recover the stolen herd. Officers caught up with the suspects and retrieved all 3,000 animals, the NPS said.
The operation followed another recovery on November 2 involving livestock stolen from Samburu East and driven towards Isiolo County.
Marsabit livestock recovery follows earlier pursuit
During the earlier operation, officers stationed in Shaba received intelligence about a livestock raid in Archers, Samburu East. Suspected bandits had stolen sheep and goats and were reportedly heading towards Manyatta Zebra in Isiolo.
A multi-agency team then tracked the suspects to Oltungai Plateau under Operation Maliza Uhalifu. An exchange of gunfire followed, and police said the suspects fled.
Officers subsequently recovered 75 sheep and goats. After identifying their owners, security teams returned the animals.
The NPS praised the security agencies involved in both operations. It also commended community members for sharing information and supporting the recovery efforts.
The recoveries form part of ongoing operations against livestock theft and armed banditry in northern Kenya. Pastoralist communities across the region have repeatedly faced raids that strip them of livestock and disrupt their livelihoods.
