NTSA has asked the public for vehicle registration details after a viral clip showed dangerous overtaking on a Nairobi dual carriageway.

A Nairobi racing video has prompted the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to seek help identifying motorists. The authority has promised to investigate the dangerous driving and take action against those involved.

The clip circulating online shows a Mercedes-Benz C-Class racing and making dangerous overtaking attempts on a dual carriageway. In response, NTSA has asked the public to submit registration details for the vehicles involved.

Nairobi racing video shows near collision

The footage appears to show the Mercedes-Benz approaching other vehicles at high speed before attempting to overtake from the left. During the manoeuvre, it nearly collides with another motorist.

Collision-warning alarms sound as occupants react, while the driver brakes sharply. The occupants also appear to be travelling without seat belts.

Meanwhile, one of the vehicles appears to have no visible number plate. This complicates efforts to establish the identities of its owner and driver.

NTSA condemned the driving, saying it put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk. The authority stressed that motorists must not compromise safety when lives are at stake.

NTSA asks public to share registration details

To help identify the motorists, NTSA urged anyone with vehicle registration information to send it through social media direct messages. It also thanked members of the public who flagged the footage and condemned the conduct.

The authority said it would investigate and take immediate, appropriate action. Its appeal focuses on obtaining the vehicle details needed to pursue those involved.

The incident has also renewed concerns about motorists using public roads for high-speed stunts. Such driving can expose unsuspecting motorists and passengers to serious injury or death.

NTSA’s road safety responsibilities include vehicle registration, driver licensing and vehicle inspections. The authority also educates the public on safe road use as part of its transport regulatory mandate.
