The Wiper leader says his Wamunyoro meeting with Rigathi Gachagua reflected their friendship as he pushes for cooperation ahead of the 2027 election.

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has alleged that individuals are receiving payments to undermine opposition unity. He also defended his recent visit to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence.

Speaking at ACK Church of Faith in Ithareini, Kirinyaga County, Kalonzo urged Kenyans to reject claims targeting opposition leaders. Democratic Party leader JB Muturi and other leaders also attended the service.

Kalonzo said cooperation remained essential to challenging President William Ruto’s administration in the 2027 General Election. He pledged to continue engaging fellow opposition leaders as they seek a common political direction.

Kalonzo defends visit amid opposition unity concerns

The Wiper leader dismissed suggestions that his meeting with Gachagua was unusual or intended to divide the opposition. Instead, he described the visit as a reciprocal engagement between friends.

Kalonzo said the two had maintained a close friendship since Gachagua’s impeachment. He noted that the former deputy president had previously visited his home in Tseikuru.

His trip to Wamunyoro, therefore, should not become a source of political controversy, he argued. Kalonzo maintained that political differences should not derail efforts to build a united opposition.

He also urged leaders to keep their attention on Kenya’s economic and governance challenges. Their cooperation, he said, would help offer Kenyans an alternative leadership.

Prayers for Eastleigh building collapse victims

During the service, Kalonzo led congregants in a moment of silence for victims of the Eastleigh building collapse. He also prayed for rescue teams and people still trapped beneath the rubble as emergency operations continued.

The Wiper leader called for compassion and solidarity with affected families. Fellow opposition leaders joined the congregation in remembering those who died and praying for those awaiting rescue.

Highway deaths renew road expansion pledge

Meanwhile, Kalonzo mourned the 22 people reported killed in a Nairobi–Mombasa Highway accident on Sunday, October 25, 2026. He expressed concern about repeated fatal crashes along the route.

He also recalled that pilgrims had died in an accident on the same highway the previous month. Those recurring losses, he argued, showed the urgent need to improve road safety.

Kalonzo renewed his pledge to turn the highway into a dual carriageway. He said expansion should take priority to ease congestion, improve traffic flow and reduce safety risks as traffic increases.
